Smash Jibarito
How a pop-up became Humboldt Park's most unusual burger.
It started without a door of our own. Two years of pop-ups — a new kitchen every week, a line that found us anyway.
The move was simple and a little crazy: take the Chicago smashburger and put it where the jibarito put the steak — between two fried sweet plantains.
People came back. Then they crossed town for it. Now we've got our own spot on Division.
We don't have to say it's good. The city already did.
